The optimal source of omega-3 fatty acids
Polyunsaturated fatty acids are essential nutrients that must be taken in through the diet. Omega-3 fatty acids in particular play an important role in our health. They are found primarily in fatty cold-water fish. However, fish is not an optimal source of omega-3 fatty acids due to heavy metal pollution and overfishing.
Krill oil contains the important omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These support the heart, brain and vision. Astaxanthin, naturally occurring in krill, protects against free radicals and oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids. Choline supports normal liver function.
The core properties at a glance
- Omega-3 fatty acids EPA & DHA contribute to normal heart function*.
- DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and the maintenance of normal vision**.
- Choline supports normal fat and homocysteine metabolism and contributes to normal liver function***.
- Phospholipids are components of the cell membrane
- Astaxanthin is a powerful antioxidant for the protection of sensitive fatty acids
* (with an intake of > 250 mg EPA & DHA per day)
** (when taking > 250 mg DHA per day)
*** (when taking > 82.5 mg choline per day)
Phospholipid-bound omega-3 fatty acids
The omega-3 fatty acids in Wish-You-More Krill Oil Forte are bound to phospholipids. Phospholipids are components of cell membranes that aid in the absorption of fatty acids from the digestive tract, transport throughout the body, and incorporation into cells.
Highly concentrated ingredients
The Aker BioMarine Flexitech™ processing method removes more unwanted substances such as salts and polar substances. Compared to other products, this allows the concentration of DHA, EPA, (+ 20-30%) phospholipids (+ 50%) and choline (+ 40%) to be greatly increased.
Natural astaxanthin protects fatty acids
Omega-3 fatty acids belong to the group of polyunsaturated fatty acids that readily oxidize, i.e. "go rancid", when they come into contact with oxygen. They then lose their positive properties and can even have a negative effect on health. Due to the naturally occurring antioxidant astaxanthin in krill, the fatty acids in krill oil are particularly well protected against oxidation. The antioxidant capacity of astaxanthin is up to 550 times higher than that of vitamin E and up to 60 times higher than that of vitamin C.
Chlorophyll
Instead of artificial flavoring, we use the natural colorant chlorophyll, which gives the capsules their greenish color. Chlorophyll has odor-neutralizing properties.
Sustainability & Environmental Protection
Our krill oil is extracted from Antarctic krill. The Aker Eco-Harvesting™ method allows for nearly 0% bycatch. Aker BioMarine works with WWF and is MSC certified. Together with AWF (Antarctic Wildlife Fund), they are committed to biodiversity and ecosystem conservation. The total krill biomass is estimated at 300 - 500 million tons. Of this, about 150 - 250 million tons are eaten by other animals each year. However, the same amount also reproduces about annually. The amount of krill caught annually by humans is about 210,000 tons, which is only 0.084 - 0.14% of the amount eaten by animals.
No exposure to environmental toxins
Krill are small shrimp-shaped crustaceans that are fished in Antarctic waters. There, the pollution of the sea with environmental toxins is even less pronounced than in other areas of the world. Unlike tuna, for example, which is often heavily contaminated with mercury, krill are also at the beginning of the food chain, which is why hardly any heavy metals accumulate in them.
