Enormously important for the energy metabolism in your body
A balanced and nutrient-rich diet supports the energy supply of every cell in our body. L-carnitine plays a central role in energy metabolism. This is how it works: with the help of L-carnitine, fatty acids are transported to the inside of the mitochondria, where they are metabolized into energy, in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate).
The body can also produce L-carnitine itself. It is produced in the body from lysine and SAM (S-adenosylmethionine) in a multi-step process. The amount that can be synthesized is estimated to be 16-20mg per day. Important other factors necessary for synthesis are vitamin C, B3, B6, B12, folic acid and iron. A deficiency of riboflavin (vitamin B2) can also inhibit L-carnitine synthesis.
Our Wish-You-More L-Carnitine contains the high quality raw ingredient Carnipure™. Carnipure™ is a brand of Lonza Switzerland and stands for highest production standards, raw material quality and purity of L-Carnitine for 25 years.
L-Carnitine tartrate is a natural substance of the Carnipure® brand. High bioavailability, vegan, laboratory tested, without additives. Carnipure™ stands for highest production standards, raw material quality and purity of L-Carnitine. 180 capsules per can. 500 mg L-Carnitine per capsule.
L-carnitine deficiency?
Vegetarians in particular can benefit from an additional supply of L-carnitine. L-carnitine is mainly found in animal products such as meat, fish and dairy products. People with a mixed diet take in about 20 - 200 mg per day through their food, whereas vegetarians only take in about 1 mg. For this reason, lower levels of L-carnitine have often been found in people who live strictly vegetarian.
L-carnitine plays an important role in energy and fat metabolism, as it transports long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondrion (= power plant of the cell). There, ß-oxidation takes place, a degradation process by which our body obtains energy from fatty acids.
Other risk factors for a limited L-carnitine intake can be an advanced age and/or a poor digestive capacity.
Long-chain fatty acids can only pass the mitochondrial membrane when bound to L-carnitine. This is precisely why a good supply of L-carnitine is important.
